[2] A classic film adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s novel, a creation of distinction from 1967, directed by John Schlesinger, with Julie Christie (as Bathsheba Everdeene), Alan Bates (as Gabriel Oak), Terence Stamp (as Sergeant Troy) and Peter Finch (as William Boldwood).

[2] A less glamorous, but still notable, 1997 adaptation of Wilkie Collins’s novel, directed by Tim Fywell, with Justine Waddell (as Laura Fairlie), Tara Fitzgerald (as Marian Halcombe) and Andrww Lincoln (as Walter Hartright). The film starts at 1:43, after a short introduction.
